Welcome

Wouldn’t it be nice if you could just tell your friends once which foods make you ill? Wouldn’t it be nice if they could go and check somewhere, quickly, to find out what to cook for you when you’re dropping round for tea? And without having to get in touch with you, but in their own time and at their own convenience? Wouldn’t it be great to just have recipes which are tailored to your particular allergies and intolerances, without having to have heaps of recipe books?

This site was created out of the frustration of having a food allergy; to provide support and ideas for those who are as bemused and confused about the whole thing as I’ve been. And my friends; particularly the one who asked “Do Mars bars have milk in them?” They too have struggled and wondered what on earth to feed me; or gone to the other extreme, and produced so many alternative foods that I haven’t known what to choose from, and left an awful lot of food uneaten: or worse, they’ve produced all sorts of things that are safe for me to eat, but which I don’t actually like that much

So in order to reduce this, the WICE site will let you create your own personalised profile ("My Page"), share your likes and dislikes with your friends, and generate your own personal recipes. This site will let you discuss your allergy problems in your own forum; just because your symptoms aren’t clinically visible, or because they are best dealt with in the privacy of your own bathroom, doesn’t mean that they aren’t there, and that people shouldn’t believe you. They should.

This site is not about defining allergy, or diagnosing it. It’s not about defining and diagnosing intolerance, although there is a reasonable amount of information available, and suggestions of other places to look for more detailed information. It’s about your problems, and about helping you communicate them to your friends. You understand your problems; you have to live with them on a day-to-day basis. They don’t: and that makes them panic unnecessarily.

This site has been created as part of a Queen’s Guide Award Community Action Project.
